March Purchases

March Purchases by gracenote30 featuring floral scarves

Well, I survived my Lent shopping hiatus, and it was actually a really good thing for me. :)
I did order a few things today online at Elder-Beerman. They had some great sales, plus free shipping, no minimum and 30% off with two codes that I was able to stack together. I don't know if the items will fit, but for the price, I wanted to give them a try. They were all items off my wish list, so that was a bonus.
My husband bought me the Merona floral scarfpictured above and gave it to me for Easter and my mom and dad bought me a few things including the two bracelets shown above (found here and here).
I bought the following items today: Striped shirt - regular $34 on sale for $4.99 minus 30% =  $3.49Floral blouse - regular $48 on sale for $9.99 minus 30% = $6.99Tan cardigan - regular $54 on sale for $9.99 minus 30% = $6.99March total with tax: $18.60 I had a floral blouse, tan cardigan, floral scarf, spring colored tops, and colorful…

Odds and Ends + Giveaway Winner

Skirt: Thrifted, Striped Shirt: Christopher and Banks, Boots: Target

I woke up this morning and realized I never picked a winner for the spring giveaway! So...the winner is Deb! Congrats!

I only have 2 more days left of the Lent shopping hiatus. I am looking forward to getting a few new spring pieces, but overall I feel like this has been a really good experience. Over the last couple of years, I've tried to put together a wardrobe that is full of things that I can mix and match and wear together, and the last 6 weeks has proven that, for the most part, I've succeeded.

I did write a new clothing "wish list" and I do have a number of basic pieces I would like to start looking for. I think having items like a black blazer and a solid colored dress will round out my wardrobe and I am going to shop around for some of these pieces and spend a bit more on them if necessary. I have some items in the "spring" category of the wish list as well, and I feel like thes…

Casual Friday 5 Ways

Skinny Jeans 5 Ways by gracenote30 on Polyvore
Today I have 5 ways that I've worn my thrifted Mossimo skinny jeans. They have been surprisingly versatile!
Do you have a favorite outfit for casual days at work or at home?

I already review books for Tyndale Blog Network and I am excited to participate in Tyndale Rewards, too!

Black Pants 5 Ways

Well, it's not too exciting, but I definitely wear black pants a lot! I tend to wear pants in the fall, winter, and cooler part of spring more often because they are the most comfortable for me when I split my time between work and home. It also works the best for me because my job is primarily programming for kids (ages baby through early elementary) and I have a preschooler at home, so I am on the floor a lot and pants are comfy and easy to wear all day.
This pair is thrifted from Goodwill - Drew fit from the Limited. I really like them and they fit me well including length, which is nice. I am 5' 3", so in between regular and petite length.

Black Pants 5 Ways by gracenote30 on Polyvore
Once my shopping hiatus for Lent is over (less than a week!!), I am going to be looking for new black pants. I'd like a pair of skinny ankle pants as well as a regular pair of black pants. Any recommendations for ones that hold up well? Leave me a comment with your suggestions!

Chambray Shirt 5 Ways

I'm participating in the 5 Days, 5 Ways link up at Franish and Along the Lines of Style. I had several tops that I've worn a number of times including: 1. White Button Down 2. Black and White Striped 3. Grey Cardigan 4. Lace Tee and 5. Chambray Shirt
I could find the most pictures of the chambray shirt - and I am wearing it today! It works with skirts, cardigans, and statement necklaces!

Do you have a favorite piece that can be worn in lots of ways? I'd love to hear!

After our floor project, we are still moving things back and changing the locations of various items. We had a china cabinet that was basically sitting empty in our garage and we weren't sure we were going to move it back into the kitchen. I told my husband that if I could fill it with a collection of Pyrex, I would like to move it back in. So, I decided to see if I could get my collection moving in the right direction!

I had a few Pyrex pieces including this Amish Butterprint Cinderella bowl from my grandparents. I also purchased the Flamingo pink pie plate shown in the pic from a local person who I found through Etsy.

I decided to contact her again and she had a set of Verde Cinderella bowls (shown in the first picture) and a Blue Horizon casserole dish available, so I bought them! I love the lid on this dish!

This is the top of the cabinet now! Obviously, it is a small collection, but I love the way it looks together. We even found the Town and Country casserole dish at Goodwi…

Book Review: Wishing on Willows

Wishing on Willows by Katie Ganshert is a contemporary Christian fiction novel set in the small town of Peaks, Iowa. Robin Price is a widow with a small son and a cafe called the Willow Tree Cafe. She is passionate about this cafe as it was a dream she and her late husband shared. When Ian McKay arrives in Peaks with plans to build condominiums in Peaks, the town is thrilled. However, the condos are to be built right where Robin's cafe and a ministry called One Life are located. Ian is determined to get Robin to sell her cafe and Robin is just as determined to resist. Robin and Ian are both fighting internal battles as well as their battle with each other. Both must make a choice about trusting God and moving forward in His grace.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters, setting, and plot were very believable and well-developed. Much of Robin's story was rooted in her past with her late mother and her late husband so portions of the book are told in flashbacks which I thoug…

Waiting for Spring

Happy Monday! Today is going to be a catch up day around here. My husband graciously took a vacation day, so we are planning to do our Saturday errands this morning. :)

In the meantime, it is still so cold and icky here!! I know this is a typical Ohio March, but I am so ready for warmer temperatures! And sunshine! In the meantime, I have been doing some crafting in springtime colors instead.

I have some earrings left over from the craft show. If you'd like a pair, they are $4 shipped or 2 pairs for $5 shipped. Send me an email and which ones you'd like.

Here's a close up of some aqua and lilac ones. :) I have enough left over pastel beads, that I think I am going to make myself a bracelet.

We also ordered this pretty springy colored fold over elastic to make hair ties. It didn't come in time for the show, so we will be enjoying this elastic for us and maybe for some fun springtime gifts. :)

I also picked up this pretty blue-green fabric to make a ruffle tank from this…

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

With Google Reader on its way out, I've decided to give Bloglovin a try. I transferred over all my blog feeds this afternoon and it seemed to work pretty easily.

I'd love to have you follow me with Bloglovin!

If you are a Google Reader user, what are you planning to do instead?

It's been a busy week around here! Here are a few pictures of our table for the Mom 2 Mom sale tomorrow.

I have 2 more weeks left of the shopping hiatus! I honestly was thinking today that I haven't missed shopping as much as I thought. I've been thinking about what changes I might want to make to my shopping habits once I am able to buy again. I've also been giving some thought to how clothing is made and produced and what alternatives there are to some of the traditional stores. I may share a bit of my research in the future, but in the meantime, I know buying secondhand at Goodwill is definitely a positive way to go, so I will definitely be starting to look again soon.

I'm also super sad about the end of Google reader! I haven't decided what route I want to go for all the blogs I read, but I've seen a couple of good options that are available. Do you know what you plan to do?

Next week, I will have a book review and a fun little giveaway post coming up,…

What I Wore: Color

I've continued wearing an outfit with a thrifted item every day in March. We'll see if I can make it all 31 days! It has been a great way for me to wear new items in different combinations - I have some fun stuff that has not been getting worn and a few things that I've gotten rid of after wearing them. :)

This outfit includes a short sleeve bright blue cardigan from Goodwill and a pair of thrifted Gap jeans.

White Button Down: Lands' End, Jeans: Thrifted, Boots: Target, Sweater: Thrifted

Necklace: Elder-Beerman (Gift)

Bracelet: Gift from a friend when she visited family in Brazil - I just love the colors!

St. Patrick's Day Activity Roundup

I just finished up planning and presenting a green themed program for kids over the weekend at the library and am planning a few St. Patrick's Day activities to use with my daughter this week, so I thought it would be fun to share a few of my finds!

For the program, we decorated some foam door hangers (above) and then we created these faux tie dye coffee filter shamrocks from this idea found at Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas. We used dot markers and they were super easy, cute, and inexpensive. We also planted seeds in sponges (idea found here), but will have to wait to see if this experiment works. Our sponge is sitting on the windowsill right now.

I went to the Dollar Tree and got foam shamrocks and craft sticks to try this learning activity from No Time For Flash Cards. I think we will modify it and I will have my daughter sort and read words by short vowels.

I also love this St. Patty's Day Hooray site word game freebie and we…

Show and Tell Tuesday: Pouches

Well, I've managed to make progress on some pouches for the craft show this week and finished 2! I also have made some simple beaded earrings and purchased some fold over elastic to make hair ties. I am hoping to finish up two more pouches before Saturday. :)

Transition to a Spring Wardrobe: Use What You Have

There's still a chill in the air, but temps are getting a bit warmer and the sunshine is shining a bit more brightly! Spring is right around the corner. It can still be pretty cold in Ohio for the next several weeks, but it is definitely time to start bringing some spring into my wardrobe! I'd love to go out and pick up a new floral top or some colorful pants or even a cute new pair of wedge heels, but I've still got a few weeks of no shopping left, plus I know I already have lots of great pieces that can help transition my wardrobe to spring without buying a thing!

Here are a few of my favorite ideas and combinations!

1. Add some color! Pastels are big this spring and the 2013 colors from Pantone can be seen here. Stick with some of the same neutrals from your winter wardrobe, and add in a pop of color with a scarf or colorful shoes. I have a pair of cropped peach/coral jeans that I got last year at KMart for around $3. I can't wait to wear them this spring - you can …

What I Wore and Week 3 Lent Check In

It's Friday again! Today felt a bit more like spring here - sunny and around 40. The birds sounded different, too! I wanted to include some brighter colors today and I wore flats even though my feet were pretty chilly. :)

Jeans: DKNY via GW, Flats: Target, Shirt: Meijer, Scarf: Kohl's, Bracelet: Target, Earrings: Avon

With it starting to feel a little more springlike, I am feeling the urge to get a few new pieces, so the Lent shopping hiatus is a little harder. I am also seeing a shift in my wish list wants. I am seeing floral tops that I like and definitely would like a couple of spring colored tops.

One other frustration this week was having to get rid of a black blazer I bought only a few months ago - very disappointing. It just didn't wear well at all and looked really terrible. I will want to replace it and need to figure out what brand to get that will wear longer! I am thinking that I may need to shift my monthly budget allocations away from lots of inexpensive ite…

Show and Tell Tuesday: Getting Ready

After last week's project and this weekend's craziness, I am just starting to do a little bit of sewing again. We have been shipping out lots of shop orders, so we are trying to add more inventory and prepare for a little craft fair at our church. I am trying to cut more than 1 thing at a time, so over the last couple of evenings, I've cut two pouches, two tea wallets, a mug rug, and four sets of fusible fleece pieces for pouches.

Here's a mug rug that is cut and ready to sew. Fabric is Sunny Happy Skies by Riley Blake.

This is going to be an odds and ends post so here we go!

I am not a nonfiction reader, but Kisses from Katie has been awesome so far!

Around the House:
We moved some things around after our flooring project and got out some things we haven't been using for awhile.

We got this lamp when we got married and it is perfect on top of the piano!

My parents bought us some get well/spring flowers.

Using  some table linens from my grandparents. Either my grandma or my great-grandma did the stitching.

Love my owl and the clock was another wedding present we got back out.

Mom made me a new fabric bin (more in the shop) to match my pillows in the living room. It turned out really cute!

I also started a March Madness Pinterest board to keep track of all the outfits I wear with Goodwill items in them this month

What are you up this week? Anything you are reading, enjoying, or working on? Leave me a comment - I try to respond to all of them! :)
