Charm Square Wreath

Image
We started getting out our Christmas decorations this weekend. I knew I wanted to make a new wreath, but when I went to Pat Catan's to look for supplies, I got so overwhelmed, plus I didn't want to spend a ton of money to make a new one. I have a lot of craft supplies, so I started looking around on Pinterest for some ideas that would use what I have. I found a fabric covered wreath from Craftiness is Not Optional, and thought I might be able to use some of my fabric to do something similar.
I already had a 12" foam wreath form and I also had a charm pack of some cute Kate Spain fabrics from her Joy line. (I got it on sale awhile ago.) I started playing around with the charms and tried to figure out how to wrap them around the wreath form. I ended up cutting each charm along the diagonal to form two triangles. Then, I wrapped them, one triangle at a time, around the wreath form and hot glued them onto the wreath. I alternated directions - one triangle with the wide part …

Book Review: Christmas in Apple Ridge

Reading Christmas books is a great way for me to get into the spirit of the season. I recently finished reading Christmas in Apple Ridge by Cindy Woodsmall. This book included 3 separate novellas in one volume. The titles included are: The Sound of Sleigh Bells, The Christmas Singing, and The Dawn of Christmas. The first two titles were previously published and the third is brand new. I vaguely remembered reading The Sound of Sleigh Bells, but didn't remember all the details, so I enjoyed reading it again.
Each novella is the story of an Amish couple who faces past hurts and various adversities on their path to love. The Sound of Sleigh Bells is the story of Beth and Jonah. Beth can't let go of a tragedy that haunts her and keeps her from living her life. Jonah is an Amish man that is a talented carver. When Beth discovers his talent, she is captivated, but is he who she thinks he is? The Christmas Singing is the story of Mattie and Gideon. Mattie leaves home to become a cake…

I have three more shops to feature today, so here we go! :) The first shop today is PrincessEMarie. This shop has the cutest earrings! Made of sequin confetti, these fun dangle earrings are available for lots of different holidays including Christmas, New Year's, and everyday wear as well. It was hard to pick a favorite here, but I really like these winter snowflake earrings.
The next shop up is PACountryCrafts. This shop has a variety of items for the home including baskets, framed stitchery, and personalized wooden ornaments. I have a few items from Lindsay, including a personalized ornament, and everything is beautiful and very well made. I especially love her framed stitchery items that she has been adding, and this purple one is my favorite right now.

Last up for today is our shop, CJ's Craft Corner. Our shop is a collaborative effort, and we've been working hard to make lots of items in fun new fabric combinations. We have coffee cozies, tea wallets, car trash bags…

What I Wore: Checking In

Image
Black and White Sweater: Christopher and Banks, Cobalt Blue Shirt: Riders, Skinny Jeans: Mossimo (Thrifted), Black Ankle Boots: Payless, Blue Necklace and Earrings: Kohl's (Gift)
Sorry the pic isn't better - I seem to only remember to take pics late at night inside! I haven't posted a What I Wore post in awhile but I have still been working on be more careful and purposeful with my shopping and spending and trying to remix my current wardrobe in the process. I am still using Go Chic or Go Home to see my closet and work on putting together new outfits.
I found the style blog Blue Paper Lanterns recently, and her annual clothing budget is $600. I feel like $50 is a reasonable amount for me to spend each month on clothing, accessories, etc. Part of this amount comes out of the clothing line item in our budget and part is my monthly "mad money" or money I make selling on Etsy, Ebay, etc.
So far, I've spent around $14 this month on 3 shirts and a necklace. I nee…

Sweet Fabric Bundle

Image
Over at Sew Lux fabrics, they are having a fun contest! Basically, they are asking participants to browse the Sew Lux shop and select 8 fabrics to coordinate with each other. Sew Lux will select their 10 favorite entries and those 10 will be voted on. The winning bundle will be for sale at Sew Lux during December and the winner gets the bundle he/she created for free! Super fun!
Participants can enter up to 2 times, so here is my first entry! I'm calling this entry "Sweet". I started out with the green floral print called A-Line Dress in Rosemary from the Hello Luscious line by Basic Grey. I used the color palette of pink, red, green, and plum to pull together a variety of other prints from different lines. I tried to mix and match florals, geometrics, dots, and solids.

Book Review: The Bridesmaid

The Bridesmaid is the newest book in the Home to Hickory Hollow series by Beverly Lewis. A few months ago, I reviewedThe Fiddler, the first book in the series. One thing that I really like about this series is that each book stands on its own. Each book contains a story that begins and ends within a single book. There is overlap from title to title in terms of the setting and some of the characters, which means if you read all the titles, you will get to know certain characters quite well.
The Bridesmaid is the story of Joanna Kurtz, a young Amish woman who is still unmarried, despite being older in the eyes of the Amish. Joanna is surprised to meet a pleasant young Amish man named Eben Troyer while both are away from their homes and visiting family in Virginia Beach. The twosome spend several days becoming friends and decide to write to each other when they return to their homes in Pennsylvania and Indiana. As Eben and Joanna grow closer through letters and phone calls, they run into …

November!

It's November...in fact a week of November is already finished! I've enjoyed a little blogging break, but wanted to stop and say hi to everyone! :)
First, I wanted to let you all know that Barbara won the fall craft bundle giveaway, so congrats to her! One of my goals for this year was to have a giveaway of some sort on the blog each month. I know I've done several so far this year, so plan on November and December giveaways, too.
We been sewing up a storm and stocking our Etsy shop with lots of goodies for gift giving. I also have been getting ideas for Christmas gifts to make. My daughter and I made a fabric bookmark tonight, so I guess we've made one thing already!
I thrifted one time last Friday and found a cute plaid shirt that was on my list. I was excited and plan to stay out of Goodwill until at least the middle of the month. The time away from thrifting has been wonderful.
There are so many good challenges and series going on right now online. I mentioned th…

31 Days of Seeking Simplicity: Thank You

Yesterday was the last official day of the 31 days series. I missed a few days here and there, but for the most part was able to keep blogging throughout the challenge. I was able to spend some time thinking through some things that were bothering me and even resolved a few. I want to thank all of you that took the time to read during the last month!
I am excited about November and the ideas we have for our Etsy shop. We've been creating lots of new items, working on updating our listings, and more. We'll have a coupon code at some point as well - probably over Thanksgiving weekend. I had a few ask what all we were doing to get ready for the holidays, so I might share a bit about that as well.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, too! I'm hoping to get some gifts started and purchased and create some new family traditions.
For the blog, I have a stack of great books to read and review - and maybe even give away! The craft bundle giveaway is open for a …
