Book Review: Song of My Heart

Since I love to read, a few months ago I decided to look into the idea of getting involved with reviewing books. I specifically contacted a few Christian publishers that had programs in place and this is my first review for one of them.

Title: Song of My Heart
Author: Kim Vogel Sawyer

I've read some of Kim Vogel Sawyer's books before, so this title immediately caught my attention. Set in the mid-1890's, the main character, Sadie Wagner leaves home to work as a clerk in a mercantile in Kansas. Sadie needs to work to help support her younger siblings, mother, and stepfather as her stepfather is injured and unable to work. In addition to her work in the mercantile, Sadie is also being offered an opportunity to sing at the town's new opera house.

My favorite part of this book was the characters. I thought the author did a wonderful job of developing the characters. There are several charming, interesting, and quirky characters in the novel such as Melva and Shelva, the twins w…

Charm Square and Fat Quarter Mini Tote

A few months ago, I picked up a charm pack of Kate Spain's Terrain fabric from a local quilt show. I made a few mug rugs from the charms, but I saved myself enough charms to make a project for myself - the colors are so gorgeous!

Recently, I decided to make myself a mini tote using 18 charms (9 on each side) and 2 charms for a pocket on the inside. I also used 2 fat quarters of Amy Butler's Martini dot fabric (in two colors) to piece together the inside and the strap. I think it turned out really pretty. I need to take the time to switch my things into this tote and start carrying it!

What do you think? Is this something I should try making for the shop?

I'm linking up to the Sew Lux Stitch and Share Challenge: Charm Squares.

If you have a Kindergarten student, this looks like a great review packet for summer! It would also be great for homeschoolers. This packet addresses Common Core math and literacy standards.

It's March!

It's been awhile since I've posted here, but not for lack of projects, ideas, or posts. We've been doing tons of decluttering, reorganizing, selling on eBay, and house projects. We are finally working on redoing our bedroom including painting, some new furniture, and hopefully some cute DIY projects. I am hoping to do a before and after post complete with our budget breakdown.

I finished a quilted blanket for a raffle at our church. My mom pieced the top and I finished it. My mother in law won it, which was kind of fun. :) We've been adding lots of cute stuff to the shop including some spring and Easter items.

We also managed to sneak in a quick overnight to visit family - and two of us have had yucky coughs/colds.

I also have to share and say thank you for a couple of neat things I received last week. First up is a beautiful Bible cover from Anita. It fits my Bible perfectly, thank you! I also received my PIF from Hollie at the Undercover Crafter. I don't have a phot…
