Show and Tell Tuesday: Maxi Skirt

Over the weekend, I picked up some nice jersey fabric at Joann Fabric for only $3.50 a yard. I got 2 yards and knew I wanted to make a dress or skirt out of the fabric. Thanks to a tip from Lindsay, I decided to make a simple maxi skirt with a fold over waist using this tutorial from Make It and Love It.

The skirt took only about an hour and a half to make and I love it! I wore it today for my daughter's preschool Fiesta program. I like all the neutrals in the fabric and it will get a lot of wear. I can see it with a ruffled tank and sandals in the summer as well as a sweater, tights, and boots in the fall and winter.

This skirt is a good representation of my signature style - comfortable but dressy and classic with a touch of the trends. I like to start with basic pieces and add accessories like the necklace, bracelet, and flats.

I made my daughter a similar skirt from a premade adult t-shirt dress that I repurposed and I also promised to make my mom one as well. I may just make another one for myself!

I'm linking up!

Wow, you worked that piece up quickly. Did you not gather yours as much as in the tutorial? It looks slightly different, so wondered if you made variations?

Glad you found time to sew.

Oh, they are sooooo comfortable, too! I got fabric to make myself a maxi skirt (just plain ol' gray) and a pretty teal for my daughter that I am hoping to make soon. I was going to do that today, but ended up changing my plans. Great job on the skirt and enjoy! :)

This is a great idea! I rarely find maxi skirts that are the right length for my tall self, so I could just make one! Brilliant!
$3.50 a yard?!? That is AWESOME!!! And it's perfect fabric for a maxi skirt---which is perfect! I love it!
