Wishing on Willows by Katie Ganshert is a contemporary Christian fiction novel set in the small town of Peaks, Iowa. Robin Price is a widow with a small son and a cafe called the Willow Tree Cafe. She is passionate about this cafe as it was a dream she and her late husband shared. When Ian McKay arrives in Peaks with plans to build condominiums in Peaks, the town is thrilled. However, the condos are to be built right where Robin's cafe and a ministry called One Life are located. Ian is determined to get Robin to sell her cafe and Robin is just as determined to resist. Robin and Ian are both fighting internal battles as well as their battle with each other. Both must make a choice about trusting God and moving forward in His grace.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters, setting, and plot were very believable and well-developed. Much of Robin's story was rooted in her past with her late mother and her late husband so portions of the book are told in flashbacks which I thought added a great deal to the characters and plot. I could relate to Robin's struggle as she tries to hold on to what she thinks God wants for her. So often, it is easier to stick to what we know instead of taking a leap of faith and moving forward into what God wants for us. I would highly recommend this well-written and realistic book.
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group
