31 Days of Seeking Simplicity: Baby Steps

I'm very tired here on this Friday night. :) It was a good week, but parts of it did seem long. I'm over halfway through this month and my journey to seeking simplicity. I know I am taking baby steps, but making progress nonetheless. So far this month, I've been really trying to figure out what is important to me and what I should scale back on or let go of.

I got rid of the goal list for the month and so far this seems to be helping me. My monthly goals were overwhelming and unrealistic. It seems like right now, focusing on short term goals is beneficial to me.

I'm scaling back on thrifting and working on using what I have in different areas of my life from craft supplies to clothes. I've been trying to say no sometimes to the Dollar Spot at Target, the daily deal sites, and online sales.

I'm OK with a store bought costume this year - it worked for us last year. I'm also happy we're doing a little family birthday party for my daughter in a couple of weeks with just the grandparents, cake, and ice cream.

Simple isn't always what we think is expected of us, but it does bring peace. So many of the expectations that make our lives complicated are self-imposed.

Are there any expectations of yourself that you've let go of and simplified your life as a result?

Nothing ever goes as planned around here, so I have to let a lot of things go. I am learning to cut myself some slack from time to time!

That's wonderful Carly...little steps in the right direction to making your life easier.

I have a to-do list on my desk with gifts I want to make. However, I haven't been able to get to my sewing machine much the past many months. I've come to realize that it's not going to matter if they don't get finished, because they are 'just because' gifts...and the recipients aren't even expecting them. I am slightly disappointed that I haven't gotten around to doing them, but I don't have to feel guilt about it. =)

Have a nice weekend.
