EW! I think sauerkraut smells disgusting! My grandmother's Italian side also adds lasagna to this tradition. I guess it's supposed to bring good luck in the coming year. We don't do that, but it's a local thing from what I hear. I'm not sure how far it spreads outside the state.<br /><br />My family has my mom's birthday AND my brother and sister-in-law's anniversary to celebrate on the first. :-) This year we had our family celebration on Dec. 30th so that my brother and his wife could have a special date on the first. My husband and I had my parents here for a second birthday dinner for Mom on the actual 1st. :-)Mary E.
